2 Corinthians 5:15
"He died for all, that they which live should not henceforth live unto themselves, but unto Him which died for them, and rose again." 2 Corinthians 5:15
Why did Jesus die for you? Was it so that you could have forgiveness for all your sins and then go on living for yourself in your old sinful ways? Not at all! The Bible tells us: "He died for all, that they which live should not henceforth live unto themselves, but unto Him which died for them, and rose again." In fact, living for ourselves was the very reason why Jesus had to suffer and die upon the cross. We were by nature selfish and desired to live for ourselves, fulfilling our own selfish and sinful desires! Instead of living for God, our Creator, by loving Him, trusting Him, and seeking to honor Him with our lives, we loved ourselves, thought we knew better than God's Word, and sought our own honor and glory. Even as Christians, who trust in the Lord Jesus and love Him, we still stuggle with our selfish and sinful natures.
What we often fail to realize is God's great love for us in giving His own
Son to die for us and redeem us. Though we may know the verses, we fail to
truly grasp the truth expressed by God's Word when it says: "For God so
loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son...."; and, "Jesus
Christ...loved us, and washed us from our sins in His own blood" (John
Isn't it time that we who trust in Christ as our Savior, also trust Him with our lives? Isn't it time that we humbly confess our selfish and sinful ways unto the Lord and trust in Him to cleanse away our sin and lead us "in the way everlasting" (Psalm 139:24)? Isn't it time that we get to know our Savior by reading and studying His Word to us and by coming to Him in prayer? Remember why Christ died for you. He loves you and desires far more good for you than you could ever know apart from Him. He loves you and desires that you walk with Him "in the way everlasting."
Dear Lord Jesus, forgive us for our selfish and sinful ways. Cleanse us with Your holy and precious blood which You shed for us upon the cross. Grant us Your Holy Spirit and move us to love You and follow You unto life everlasting. Amen.
