Minute Meditations
Jesus said, “Whosoever therefore shall be ashamed of Me and of My words in this adulterous and sinful generation;
of him also shall the Son of man be ashamed, when He cometh in the glory of His
Father with the holy angels" (Mark
So, what about you? Are you ashamed of Jesus and His Word in this present adulterous and sinful generation? Many—even among professing Christians—are! I notice that, when putting up business cards on community bulletin boards, those advertising a business or service are left up, but those which speak of Jesus are quickly removed lest someone take offense. Even among preachers, many are unwilling to speak the whole truth of God’s Word, perhaps out of fear of being branded a "religious fanatic" or “fundamentalist Christian.” Yet, think about Jesus’ words. Wouldn’t it be better to openly profess our allegiance to Jesus Christ and His Word than to shrink back and have Jesus ashamed of us at His coming? After all, He was not ashamed to become man and take our place on the cross and die for our sins that we might live! If we are ashamed of Jesus and His Word and turn away from Him, what hope have we for the hereafter? Apart from Jesus, we are left to face God's judgment in our sins. But when we, by the grace of God, trust in Jesus as our Savior, we have forgiveness for all sins and the assurance of life eternal!
Dear Lord Jesus, forgive us for being ashamed of You and Your Word, cleanse our hearts, and make us glad to be counted as Your disciples and bold to share the truth of Your Word. Amen.
