MEDITATIONS FROM THE COMMANDMENTS OF THE LORD

"And God spoke all these words, saying...."

Exodus 20:1

Many will not listen to the Ten Commandments. They imagine that these laws are only the teaching of certain churches, and that they are not binding upon all mankind. They consider the Commandments to be outdated and irrelevant to our day. But God's Word tells us differently. The Ten Commandments are not a set of laws made up by men; they are the very words and commandments of the LORD God, who created the world and man. "God spoke all these words...." Therefore, these words and commandments of the LORD God apply to all of us. These commandments were first written upon man's heart at creation, and then, because of sin, spoken again that man might know the will of God, his Maker. God has spoken them for our good, and He requires that all men live according to them; no one is exempt. To disobey any of these commandments is to sin against God Himself, and God will judge!

Dear LORD God, our Maker and Redeemer, help us to remember that You have spoken all these words to us that we might listen and obey them. For the sake of Jesus Christ, our Redeemer, grant us forgiveness for all our sins against You and Your words, and grant us a willingness to live our lives in accord with Your holy Commandments. Amen.
