Do You Know Jesus?
Dear Friend,
Do you know Jesus? Most people know some things about Jesus; but, sad to say, many do not truly know Him. They may know of His birth, or of His death and resurrection; but they do not know why He came into this world, suffered and died on the cross, and then rose again from the dead. In Jesus' day too, many recognized that He was a great prophet and teacher sent from God; but only a few came to know Him as the Messiah, the Son of God, and the Savior of the world (cf. Matthew 16:13-17).
Who is Jesus? He is the eternal Son of God and the Creator of all things (cf. John 1:1-4). He also formed you in your mother's womb and gave you life (cf. Psalm 139:13-16). Jesus will be our Judge on the Last Day. The Bible tells us that "we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad" (2 Corinthians 5:10). Yet, even though all of us are sinners (having broken God's commandments) and deserve to be condemned to hell on that Day (cf. Romans 3:23; 6:23a; Matthew 25:41), Jesus was born into this world a true man "not...to condemn the world; but that the world through Him might be saved" (John 3:17). He lived a righteous and holy life in our place and then suffered and died on the cross to pay the just penalty for our sins. The Bible tells us: "Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures...He was buried...He rose again the third day according to the Scriptures" (1 Corinthians 15:3-4).
Why did Jesus do
this? The Bible
tells us: "Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the
unjust, that He might bring us to God" (1 Peter
Do you know this Jesus? Do you trust in Him as your Savior? Do you believe that God forgives your sins, loves and accepts you, and gives you eternal life because of Jesus' innocent sufferings and death in your place? The Bible tells us: "For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life" (John 3:16); and, "Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved" (Acts 16:31)!
