HOW CAN I KNOW THAT GOD WILL HEAR MY PRAYERS?
People often wonder whether God will hear and answer their prayers. If you are not a Christian--if you do not trust in Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins and everlasting life, or if you are wilfully continuing to live in sin--God has not promised to hear and answer your prayers. The Bible says: "If I regard iniquity in my heart, the LORD will not hear me" (Psalm 66:18). But if you are a Christian--if you do trust in Christ and His blood, shed upon the cross, for the forgiveness of your sins and life everlasting--and if, as a result of your faith, you are seeking to live your life according to His will, God will hear and answer your prayers. Again the Bible says: "These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God. And this is the confidence that we have in Him, that, if we ask any thing according to His will, He heareth us: and if we know that He hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of Him" (1 John 5:13-15). As sinners, we have no right to come before God with our prayers and requests; but because of Jesus' innocent sufferings and death in our stead, God is gracious and forgiving toward us and accepts us as His own dear children; and He gladly and willingly hears and answers our prayers in the way and time which is best for us.
