HOW CAN I KNOW THAT THERE
IS A GOD?
Have you
considered the wonders of nature? the beauty of a
star-filled sky? the precision and exactness of all
things which are required to sustain life on the earth? the
wondrous design and function of your own body and mind? Did this, or could
this, all happen by chance? Never! The Bible tells us that: "The
heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth
His handywork" (Psalm 19:1); and, "I
will praise Thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made" (Psalm
139:14). All of God's creation clearly testifies to the existence of an
all-wise and all-powerful Creator (cf. Romans 1:19-20). Have you considered
your own conscience? Why is it that you feel guilt and are afraid of punishment
when you do wrong, and feel good when you do what is right? God created you
with a basic knowledge of His moral law (even though it is often darkened and
clouded by our own sin) and with a knowledge or sense that you are accountable
to God and will be judged by Him at the end of this life (cf. Romans 2:14-16). The very conscience
of man tells him that there is a God to whom he is responsible. This is why
people all over the world seek to please God (even if they do not know who He
is) through some type of religious service. Finally, and most importantly, you
can know there is a God because He has revealed Himself to us in the pages of
the Bible and through His Son, Jesus Christ! In the Bible, God tells us who He is:
one true God, and yet three distinct Persons, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. God
tells us about Himself and about His workings to create and redeem us. Since
all of us are by nature turned away from God into sin and unbelief, God sent
His own dear Son, Jesus Christ, into the world to suffer and die upon the cross
for our sins and to teach us to know the true God through faith in Him. Jesus
said, "And this is life eternal, that they might know Thee the only
true God, and Jesus Christ whom Thou hast sent" (John 17:4). God grant
to you a true knowledge of Him through faith in His Son, Jesus Christ!
