DO I HAVE TO OBEY MY
PARENTS?
The Bible does command us to "Honour" our father and mother, and tells children
to "obey" their "parents in all things: for this is
well pleasing unto the Lord" (Ephesians 6:1-2; Colossians 3:20). Therefore, it is God's will that
children honor and obey their parents "in all things"--unless,
of course, parents would have their children disobey God; for then "we
ought to obey God rather than men" (Acts 5:29). To parents, and especially fathers,
God has entrusted the responsibility to "bring up" their
children "in the nurture and admonition of the Lord"
(Ephesians 6:4). It may not always seem pleasant to honor and obey our parents,
but this is God's will for us; and, more often than we may think, our parents
do know what is good for us.
