I am 14 and a Christian and I totally believe in Jesus Christ, but my mom and dad aren't and I was wondering how can I get my family involved with God and to become believers if they have no interest in Him?
You ask a very good question. I am
so happy to hear that you trust in Jesus Christ as your Savior from sin and
eternal damnation. "Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no
other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved" (Acts
First of all, PRAY FOR THEM! This
is so important; for, as Jesus says, "No one can come to Me [Jesus] unless
the Father who sent Me draws him...." (John 6:44). The Bible also says,
"So then it is not of him who wills, nor of him who runs, but of God who
shows mercy" (Romans
Secondly, be a witness to them by
the way you live. As a Christian, you have forgiveness for all your sins, and
the Holy Spirit of God has come into your heart to make you a new creation
(Colossians 1:12-23; 1 Corinthians 6:9-11; 2 Corinthians 5:15-17). Jesus tells
us, as His disciples, "Let your light so shine before men, that they may
see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven" (Matthew 5:16). As
a Christian, I urge you to live your life for Jesus and seek to do His will
always. This includes obeying your parents (unless they ask you to sin against
the Lord) from the heart (cf. Colossians
While Peter was giving advice to believing wives in how to be a witness to their unbelieving husbands, it also applies in your situation: "Wives, likewise, be submissive to your own husbands, that even if some do not obey the word, they, without a word, may be won by the conduct of their wives, when they observe your chaste conduct accompanied by fear" (1 Peter 3:1-2). Since you do not have the authority to be preaching to your parents or telling them what they should do, witness by letting them see Christ's work in you. Let them see in you one who submits to and obeys his/her parents, even when they are not there to watch over you. Let them see a loving and obedient heart, and a joyful heart. If your parents see your love for the Lord Jesus and for them, accompanied by respect for your parents and obedience and service to them, that will have a great impact on their view of Jesus and what He can do in the life of a believer.
Thirdly, witness when you have an opportunity. I'm not suggesting that you preach to your parents, but you can let them know of your concern for them; and, if opportunity arises and they ask you, tell them of Jesus and what He has done for you. Again, Peter writes: "But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts, and always be ready to give a defense to everyone who asks you a reason for the hope that is in you, with meekness and fear...." (1 Peter 3:15). While I wouldn't suggest that you do it all the time, you might on occasion leave a tract or Bible lesson where they could find it and read it.
Fourthly, if you have found a good Bible teaching church, you might invite your parents to go with you (if you don't have a faithful Bible teaching church, find one). If they choose not to go with you, just let them know that you would always be happy if they would join you. You might also enjoin the help of your minister. He too can be praying for them, and He might also have opportunity to call on them and share with them the Gospel.
Fifthly, though this is not really a new point, continue to pray for them and don't give up. If you would like, we could also include them by their first names on our prayer request page. I don't know you or them, but I too will be praying for you and them.
I hope this is helpful to you. If there is any other way I can be of service to you, please let me know.
